Micro-Perspectives Lesson
Students investigate the natural world from an entirely new point of view by zooming in on a 100-inch stretch of landscape using a magnifying glass. Students observe, document, sketch, and describe the details they might normally overlook and compare discoveries with their classmates. Lessons are composed of both core learning activities and flexible extensions to fit different program needs.
The Full Student Experience
What Happens Class to Class
1Investigating & Documenting New Perspectives
Students explore how distance and scale affect what we notice, comparing observations made from near and far using a magnifying glass. Then students pair up to create a measured investigation area to closely examine soil, plants, organisms, textures, and natural features they encounter, documenting their observations along the way.
2Comparing Perspectives
Groups share and compare their findings during their investigation, identifying similarities, differences, and details that they could only have seen through the lens of their magnifying glass.
