Measure, Record & Conclude Lesson
Students put the scientific method into practice as they collect, graph, and analyze the results of an experiment they run on their plants. By measuring plant height, biomass, and color, students use evidence from their experiment to identify patterns and draw conclusions. Lessons are composed of both core learning activities and flexible extensions to fit different program needs.
The Full Student Experience
What Happens Class to Class
1Measure & Observe
Students collect quantitative and qualitative data from an experiment they've been running with their plants, measuring plant height, harvested leaves, and leaf color.
2Record & Graph
After amassing their data over several classes, students organize their findings into data tables and create graphs to visually compare results between days, weeks, and their experimental treatments.
3Analyze & Conclude
Students examine their graphs for patterns and differences, considering what the data reveals about their control and experimental variable. Using evidence from their experiment, students determine whether the result supported their original hypothesis for the experiment and how they might improve the outcome in the future.
