Pin Art Board

Hammering Technique 101

Watch our DIY Pin Art Board instructional video online.

Level: Beginner

Beginner projects can typically be completed with little tooling (if any). Assembly can be completed in 30 - 45 minutes, and we recommend 45 - 75 minutes for planning and personalization. This project is appropriate for students in grades 1 and above.

Objective: Assemble a DIY pin art board and learn safe hammering techniques

Students will use basic carpentry skills to build a DIY pin art board. This project is both a fun and engaging project as well as a perfect introductory project to DIY since students will get many opportunities to practice safe hammering techniques.

Instructors then have an opportunity to reinforce learnings by prompting questions such as:

  • How many different kinds of jobs can you name that use a hammer?

  • Have you ever used a hammer before? What did you use it on?

  • What was one thing you learned about how to safely use a hammer?
