Projector

Watch our DIY projector! instructional video online.

Level: Intermediate

Intermediate projects can typically be completed with 1-3 tools. Assembly can be completed in 45 - 75 minutes, and we recommend 60 - 90 minutes for planning and personalization. This project is appropriate for students in grades 3 and above.

Objective: Construct DIY projector!

Students will use basic carpentry and electrical assembly skills to build their own DIY projector. After assembly, students will explore the science of light and image projection by testing how projection distance affects image size and clarity using interchangeable discs.

Instructors then have an opportunity to reinforce learnings by prompting questions such as:

  • How does moving the projector closer to or farther from the wall change the size and clarity of the image?

  • Where do you see image projection technology used in everyday life?
