Battle Sling

Level: Intermediate

Intermediate DIY projects typically require 2 - 5 class sessions (45 - 75 minute classes) and require 1 - 3 tools. They are generally age-appropriate for students in grades 3+.

Objective: Build a DIY Battle Sling

Using real tools and hardware, students will practice skills such as aligning wood pieces, driving screws, setting nails, and assembling movable parts. Once the frame is built, students will attach elastic sling bands and test how tension, angle, and force affect the puck launches. Students can then personalize and decorate their battle sling, making it uniquely their own for friendly target challenges, accuracy games, or tabletop competitions.

Instructors then have an opportunity to reinforce learnings by prompting questions such as:

• “What part of the build helped your sling become functional — what makes the launcher actually work?”

• “How did you ensure the walls and center divider were aligned correctly during assembly?”

• “How does stretching the elastic more or less affect the speed and distance of your puck?”

• Wood parts for assembly

• Screws

• Finish nails

• Rubber bumpers

• Elastic string

• Wood glue & rag for cleaning

• Sandpaper

• Safety glasses

• Pencils

• Notebooks for planning

Art supplies and tools are not included but can be provided upon request.
