DIY Tic-Tac-Toe

Watch our DIY Tic Tac Toe instructional video online.

Level: Beginner

Beginner projects can typically be completed with little tooling (if any). Assembly can be completed in 20 - 45 minutes, and we recommend 60 - 90 minutes for planning and personalization. This project is appropriate for students in grades TK and above.

Objective: Construct a DIY tic-tac-toe

Students will use basic carpentry skills to build their very own DIY tic-tac-toe. With a blank canvas ready for creative expression, students will have the chance to design their very own personalized tic-tac-toe board. Whether they go for a classic look or add a fun twist, it’s a great opportunity to blend art with play. Plus, once it's done, you’ll have a game that’s not only fun to look at but fun to play—perfect for family game night or to keep handy for some quick, competitive fun anytime.

Instructors then have an opportunity to reinforce learnings by prompting questions such as:

  • Where is the best spot to place the first piece in Tic-Tac-Toe?

  • Tic-Tac-Toe is a game that goes by many different names, can you think of a new name for the game?
