Empowering future innovators with hands-on DIY education
What we do
We partner with schools and youth programs to provide students with hands-on, project-based learning opportunities that not only introduce them to the skilled trades but also foster their sense of achievement through tangible results. Our curriculum is designed to help students experience the satisfaction of completing a project from start to finish, benefiting from the social-emotional learning (SEL) experiences that come with seeing their hard work pay off, and bridging the gap between academic concepts and real-world applications. Whether it’s working with measurements, fractions, following instructions, expanding their vocabulary, collaborating respectfully, or engaging in physical activity, our programs integrate core academic subjects with practical skills that prepare students for success in life.
Why it matters
The future of our workforce is constantly evolving. As many skilled trade workers are retiring, we face growing labor shortages that bring concerns about many communities’ future economic and infrastructure growth.
At the same time, students have traditionally been led to believe that a 4-year college degree is the only viable path to success. This so-called “traditional path,” however, is not a fit for every student, and there are many other viable post-secondary education and career options that can allow students to lead successful lives on their own terms, including those in the skilled trades.
For students who may not pursue a college degree, skilled trades careers provide a myriad of opportunities for stability, growth, and financial independence. For those who choose the college path, learning practical life skills will foster their confidence, preparing them to address and overcome future challenges.
Our mission is to spark and nurture an early interest in the skilled trades, while giving students hands-on learning opportunities to build real-world skills, gain confidence, and experience the personal satisfaction of completing a project from start-to-finish, developing the emotional resilience needed for students to succeed in their future endeavors.
