Level: Advanced
Advanced projects can typically be completed with 2-5 tools. Assembly can be completed in 60 - 90 minutes, and we recommend 60 - 90 minutes for planning and personalization. This project is appropriate for students in grades 5 and above.
Objective: Build a DIY wooden desk lamp
Students will use basic electrical 110V skills to build their very own DIY wooden desk lamp. Students will have an opportunity to get creative and paint their wooden desk lamp, making them a perfect gift or reading light for their bedrooms or desks.
Instructors then have an opportunity to reinforce learnings by prompting questions such as:
Who created the first light bulb?
What did you learn about building a lamp?
Why do you think it was important to use washers and wing nuts in the joints of the wooden desk lamp?
