DIY Winter Ornament

Level: Beginner

Beginner projects can typically be completed with little tooling (if any). Assembly can be completed in 20 - 45 minutes, and we recommend 15 - 30 minutes for planning and personalization. This project is appropriate for students in grades TK and above.

Objective: Construct a DIY ornament

This wooden DIY ornament allows students to decorate and personalize their very own festive decor while learning valuable skills. They'll learn the fundamentals of sanding and finishing wood to prepare it for paint, apply a screw hook, and practice tying a knot with twine, building fine motor skills through knotting techniques.

Instructors also have an opportunity to reinforce learnings by prompting questions such as:

• What colors or patterns do you think would look best on your ornament?

• What shapes or symbols could you use to decorate your ornament?

• How do you think the hook will help your ornament?

• Do you think you need a big loop or a small loop for hanging your ornament?

Art supplies and tools are not included but can be provided upon request.
