DIY Cajón Drum
Small
Level: Intermediate
Intermediate projects can typically be completed with 1-3 tools. Assembly can be completed in 45 - 75 minutes, and we recommend 60 - 120 minutes for planning and personalization. This project is appropriate for students in grades 3 and above.
Objective: Construct a small DIY cajón drum
Students will use basic carpentry skills to build their very own small DIY cajón drum. Students will have an opportunity to get creative and decorate their drum with a large canvas, allowing them to express their interests and get detailed.
Instructors then have an opportunity to reinforce learnings by prompting questions such as:
What was challenging about constructing your small cajón drum?
Why was it so important to keep the parts flush during assembly?
Who might you play some music for with your new drum?
How was building this project different or similar to other projects you’ve built?
