DIY Name Sign
Level: Beginner
Beginner projects can typically be completed with little tooling (if any). Assembly can be completed in 20 - 45 minutes, and we recommend 60 - 90 minutes for planning and personalization. This project is appropriate for students in grades 1 and above.
Objective: Construct a DIY name sign
Students will use basic carpentry skills to build their very own DIY name sign. Students get to start this project by decorating their parts and choosing what their nameplate will look like prior to assembly. They can use this on their desk, in their bedroom, as an entryway decoration for their family’s home, or a gift to someone special!
Instructors then have an opportunity to reinforce learnings by prompting questions such as:
What skills were required for you to assemble the name sign?
Have you ever used any of these tools used to assemble your name sign before?
Why was it important to use washers and tighten the wing nut on the joints of your name sign?
How was this project different from or the same as other projects you have built?
