DIY Balance Board
Level: Beginner
Beginner projects can typically be completed with little tooling (if any). Assembly can be completed in 20 - 45 minutes, and we recommend 90 - 120 minutes for planning and personalization. This project is appropriate for students in grades 1 and above.
Objective: Construct a DIY balance board
Students will use basic carpentry skills to build their very own DIY balance board. Students will have an opportunity to get creative and really dive into their detail skills with a large canvas for sketching, designing, and drawing or painting their balance boards. After decoration, students can participate in a balance board competition or tournament by breaking up into pods to see who can balance the longest with creative challenges added on for those ultra-balanced kiddo’s. Show us who can balance and pat their tummy and their head at the same time!
Instructors also have an opportunity to reinforce learnings by prompting questions such as:
What skills were required for you to assemble the balance board?
What other projects required dowels? What do you think the function of the dowel is in these types of projects?
Wat is a fulcrum?
